The Women’s Institute in Carterton has proudly run since it was founded in 1922.
In 1926 the community came together to buy a plot of land for the Women’s Institute Hall for a total of £25, a huge sum for the community back then.
Today, the hall still stands in that same place, and I was pleased to recently visit to hear from the WI about their plans to upgrade the hall.
This hall has played such a key part in the Carterton’s town history and has become a community hub over the last 100 years.
It was important for me to visit and to chat with members of the WI to see how best I can support them to keep the hall open and get the upgrades they need.
