Motorists, bus users and cyclists who regularly use one of West Oxfordshire’s busiest and most important transport routes have reason to celebrate today with the announcement of a £102m funding boost for the A40.
The Government has confirmed the Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) money is to be invested in major improvements to the key route.
The news comes as a result of a successful bid by Oxfordshire County Council which was put together in close partnership with West Oxfordshire District Council - and backed in Parliament by Robert, who led debates and lobbied Ministers tirelessly in an effort to secure this crucial funding for the A40.
Robert said: "For decades, congestion on the A40 has been the biggest transport issue in West Oxfordshire. It has been, for too long, a millstone around West Oxfordshire's neck.
"Today, I'm delighted to announce a major investment in the road.
"We have been successful in a bid for £102 million of central government funding for upgrades - on top of the £38 million already being invested by Oxfordshire County Council.
"This is the biggest investment in the A40 in a generation and will make a massive difference to transport in our area. It will end the years of misery for local motorists and enable our businesses to go to the next level.
"This comes as a result of tireless campaigning and detailed work from a strong, effective local Conservative team determined to deliver for our area.
"This success is cause for massive celebration throughout West Oxfordshire."
