Robert Courts, today welcomed the Minister for Defence Procurement, Guto Bebb, to RAF Brize Norton to open a new aircraft hangar.
The new hangar is now complete and fully operational and will maintain the A400M Atlas aircraft fleet, as it grows from 14 to 22 by next year. This £70 million investment by the Government will protect and ensure 8000 jobs across the UK, and 200 at Brize Norton itself.
Robert joined the Minister in a tour of the hangar and met those who work at the base before the Minister officially opened the hangar.
Since becoming the Member of Parliament for West Oxfordshire, Robert has been a great advocate of the base, which is both a local employer and a source of pride and identity for the people of West Oxfordshire. Robert has regularly met with both the RAF personnel and businesses at the base, including Airbus, Boeing and Thales.
Robert said, “This investment is a great step forward for the RAF as we continue to invest in the latest aircraft to support our armed forces.
“I greatly enjoyed joining the Minister in his first visit to an RAF base in his new role, and showing him how proud we are to have the largest RAF base in the UK here in West Oxfordshire.”
