Robert said: "I've written to the Director of Thames Water to seek answers as to why Thames Water has gone back on its commitment to help fund an independent investigation into the health of the River Windrush.
"It is vital that a thorough scientific study is undertaken in order to establish whether there has been a decline in the health of the Windrush and, if indeed there has been, to understand precisely what is causing it. Thames Water cannot shirk its responsibilities.
"I have been engaging with Windrush Against Sewage Pollution (WASP) and the Environment Agency on this matter for some time, and am pleased to report that the EA is currently investigating whether Thames Water is meeting its obligations to manage infiltration of the local sewer network and prevent sewage being released into the river.
"I will provide an update to constituents as soon as I can."
