Robert said, "I had a really important "Water Day" meeting at West Oxfordshire District Council today, discussing solutions to the pressing problem of pollution in the River Windrush, Evenlode and other watercourses, as well as flooding and sewage issues relating to new developments around our area. Windrush Against Sewage Pollution have done a brilliant job of raising the profile of this crucial issue recently, and we will be working closely together with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) as the Government develops its groundbreaking 25 Year Environment plan, and the new Environment Bill, to ensure that the wider environmental and regulatory picture is reconsidered - as well as our particular local concerns.
"Many thanks to representatives from the Environment Agency and Thames Water for coming to explain things from their perspective; we all need to be working together over the coming weeks and months to achieve our common end: clean rivers, full of natural life, and a fitting complement to West Oxfordshire's beautiful countryside."
