Three years ago, hugely talented Witney darts player Ryan Bull tragically lost his life, just short of his 21st birthday, to cancer.
Each year, the West Oxfordshire Darts League holds a Memorial Darts day in his honour, and to raise money for a selection of charities that helped him, this year, the wonderful Helen & Douglas House.
Ryan’s parents Martin and Tina have, with others from the West Oxfordshire darts community, assembled an extraordinary range of sponsors made up of individuals and local businesses, who all help by sponsoring a dart board, providing a prize for the raffle - and some amazing ones there are, too - as well as organising a day that is great fun, with brilliant darts players including County and professional standard.
Robert said: "Martin and Tina’s compassion, enthusiasm and quiet resolve are an outstanding example of how to create a positive legacy from a tragic event.
"The huge turnout yesterday was testament to an amazing young man’s popularity and to a lost life and talent greatly missed - as well as a reminder to us all that, no matter how young, this terrible disease can strike at any time - and that we all ought to help out with a little support, where we can."
