Robert has welcomed the Government’s announcement of the extension of the new Household Support Fund Allocations.
Robert was delighted to hear that Oxfordshire County Council have been allocated £6.7million in this latest round of funding to help families that need support with the cost of essentials at this time of international economic challenge.
This funding takes the total level of support provided for residents in Oxfordshire to £16.8million, demonstrating the Government’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable during this challenging time.
The Household Support Fund is a discretionary fund provided to local authorities enabling them to provide support to vulnerable families struggling to cover essential costs.
The Government is also delivering further support on top of the £1 billion of funding for the Household Support Fund including means-tested £900 Cost of Living Payments, a £150 payment for disabled people, and £300 for pensioner households. The Government’s Energy Price Guarantee is also in place to protect people from rising energy costs this year until the end of March 2024.
Commenting, Robert said:
“I know that some families in West Oxfordshire are struggling in the face of rising prices caused by global economic pressures including the war in Ukraine.
That is why I welcomed that the Government have allocated a further £6.7million to Oxfordshire County Council through the Household Support Fund, doubling down on our Conservative commitment to help the most vulnerable families with rising costs.
This fund is a lifeline for local residents, and this extension will ensure this vital support is available for families who are continuing to struggle over the next year.
I have seen for myself how the targeted support of funds like the Holiday Activities and Food Programme is extremely effective in providing support to those who need it most.”
