SCHOOLS IN ENGLAND WILL CLOSE FROM THE END OF FRIDAY 20TH MARCH UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Schools will still be allowing attendance from children of key workers - such as but not restricted to - NHS staff - to ensure public services can continue to operate. A full list of which workers are "key workers" is available here along with the full Government guidance.
The most vulnerable pupils - those who have a social worker or Education Health Care (EHC) Plan - will also be supported in schools.
The Government is also working with nurseries and private schools to facilitate closures, including providing financial support.
EXAMS
GCSE and A-Level exams will not take place in May and June - but the Prime Minister has assured students they will still receive qualifications. More details will follow.
FREE SCHOOL MEALS
The Government will also be making food vouchers available to those eligible for free school meals.
CHILDCARE ADVICE
Children should not be left with older grandparents or older relatives who may be particularly vulnerable to Coronavirus.
It is important at this stage that everyone continues to follow the up-to-date guidance - isolation for the whole household if anyone shows symptoms, working from home where possible, and social distancing if you do have to go out, and regular hand washing.
But now we need to apply further downward pressure on the rising numbers of Coronavirus cases, and closing schools is a part of that.
