"For many of our rural communities, buses are a lifeline for local residents to get to work, school, to appointments and to see friends and family. Buses also help to relieve congestion on our roads, which is, as we all know, a major concern for the Clanfield area. That is why I continue to campaign for more community transport services here in West Oxfordshire, working with local groups to encourage this good work. Indeed, Carterton Day Centre Transport provides invaluable support to local residents, and I welcome Oxfordshire County Council’s support in increasing regular bus services – but there is always more that we can do.
"I also support and campaign for better community transport nationally; in March, I officially assumed my new role as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Community Transport. The launch of this APPG is a significant step in strengthening national support for community transport, and a fantastic way to recognise the fantastic work of community transport initiatives right across the UK. I was greatly encouraged by the Group’s inaugural meeting, and I look forward to seeing what we are able to achieve as a platform to encourage community transport projects.
"I look forward to visiting the head offices of Adventure Plus in April and hearing more about the excellent work this charity does for young people, helping them to realise their potential through adventure and education.
