As we approach the end of a challenging year, I wanted to share twelve happy thoughts highlighting what we have achieved - locally and nationally - over the last twelve months.
- A world-leading vaccination rollout, with 220,000 doses administered to West Oxfordshire residents;
- Secured central government funding for A40 upgrades to cut congestion and improve public transport;
- Delivered at 50% cut in business rates to support our high streets and market towns;
- Opened new RAF Brize Norton Community Support offices to help personnel and their families;
- More high-skilled jobs locally, with major investment in our area's future;
- Passed the landmark Environment Act which puts in place more protections against water pollution that ever before;
- NHS funding at record levels, supporting better local facilities;
- More officers recruited to Thames Valley Police helping to protect our area;
- Introduced new laws to crack down on pet thefts;
- Introduced the world's most ambitious climate target and led a successful COP26 summit;
- Secured £68m in Government funding to upgrade Oxford Station, supporting West Oxfordshire commuters;
- Leading the world in supporting equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines in the developing world, with RAF Brize Norton at the heart of our efforts.
