The Department for Transport launched a consultation on the future of the Great Western Railway train franchise.  This will have a huge impact on West Oxfordshire, which is why I held a recent 'Ask the GWR' event to ensure that I fully know residents concerns.  I have responded to this consultation in full, which I would invite you to read:

Since being elected, one issue I have campaigned on the most is to ensure that we have a final fix to traffic congestion on the A40.

I have met with Minsters, bringing the Secretary of State for Transport to the A40 to see the congestion for himself, and have been working with WODC, Oxfordshire County Council and local transport groups to create the best solution.  I am working hard behind the scenes to ensure that West Oxfordshire can secure the necessary funding to build the improvements we need.

I presented a public petition to Parliament in December 2017 asking for a final fix to congestion the A40 between Witney and Oxford, and you can read more about this here.

Robert Courts MP Pledges his Support for Community Transport Providers

Robert Courts MP met with representatives of the West Oxfordshire Community Transport Association (WOCTA) this morning to pledge his unwavering support for local community transport operators.

Robert took a ride on the Witney Town Bus and vowed to do everything he could to support them in Parliament.

After riding the Witney Town Bus, Robert said: "I was pleased to meet with the West Oxfordshire Community Transport Association this morning to take a ride on the Witney Town Bus.

"The bus currently serves 500 passengers a week, many of whom are elderly and vulnerable. I had the chance to speak to some passengers this morning and they told me just how vital the service is to them.

"Quite simply, community transport is an essential service in West Oxfordshire and without it a great many people would be left isolated, unable to go to the shops or the doctors, or even out to visit family and friends.

"I will continue to do everything I can to ensure that community transport providers in West Oxfordshire are able to thrive and help even more people."

Oxford Times - Fresh call for improvements to save lives on the A34 as traffic levels past Oxford at highest ever

Robert Courts MP said, "As we approach the anniversary of these tragic accidents on the A34, and with more recent accidents on the A40, I want to praise the hard work and progress already made to improve the safety of these roads.

"I will continue to work with colleagues to find a joined-up solution to the various problems on this road and others.

"Sadly, many of these incidents are caused by dangerous driving - more needs to be done to ensure we all improve our driving habits and that the seriousness of these crimes is fully understood."
