Oxford Mail - United as one: Campaigners and politicians stand together to stop major healthcare plans

Robert Courts MP, other key local figures and local activites attended the Oxfordshire Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting today.

Robert made the case for the committee to commit to refer the proposals to downgrade maternity services at the Horton General to the Secretary of State for Health, should they be passed by the CCG later this week.

Robert is pleased that the committee has passed this motion, and will attend the CCG's board meeting on Thursday.

Robert Courts MP said, "As we approach the anniversary of these tragic accidents on the A34, and with more recent accidents on the A40, I want to praise the hard work and progress already made to improve the safety of these roads.

"I will continue to work with colleagues to find a joined-up solution to the various problems on this road and others.

"Sadly, many of these incidents are caused by dangerous driving - more needs to be done to ensure we all improve our driving habits and that the seriousness of these crimes is fully understood."

Banbury Guardian - MPs welcome referral of Horton maternity decision to Secretary of State for Health

Robert Courts MP and MP for Banbury, Victoria Prentis, have welcomed Oxfordshire county councillors unanimous vote in favour of referring the temporary closure of Banbury's consultant-led maternity unit to the Secretary of State for Health.

They have described the decision by the joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee (HOSC), yesterday, Thursday, as a 'breakthrough' and 'absolutely right'

Oxford Mail - MP urges reference of Deer Park Closure to Secretary of State

I am pleased the Deer Park closure has been referred.  I had urged the Oxfordshire Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee to vote to register the closure of the surgery a 'substantial change, which would see the matter referred to the Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt for review. Witney is a growing town, which is likely to have significant development in the coming years. There are already 4,500 people being treated at the surgery, to say nothing of the thousands more if Witney expands.

Oxford Mail - MPs' reaction to Supreme Court ruling on triggering Article 50

The Supreme Court has ruled that Parliament must formally vote to trigger Article 50 and being the UK's withdrawal from the European Union.

Robert Courts said that it is important to remember the ruling is about process.  People voted differently across the country.  Parts of the country voted to remain and parts of the country voted to leave.  What we do now is unite behind the result of the vote that took place.  My focus will be, as it is always is, to safeguard the interests of the people of West Oxfordshire and to ensure that they can make the most of the opportunities that present themselves in the coming months and years.

Oxford Mail - Calls for action to tackle road defects on National Pothole Day

The Department for Transport revealed the county council would receive £19.4m for road maintenance in the next financial year, with £1.3m specifically for repairing potholes.

Robert Courts welcomed the news saying, "The state of our roads is consistently raised with me by local residents and remains a great source of frustration for drivers.  This funding is welcome news for families and businesses in Oxfordshire who rely on our roads to get around."
